BRICS Law Institute

 

The BRICS Law Institute is a research and educational center, established in the framework of cooperation between a number of leading universities of BRICS countries. The permanent executive body of the Institute (Executive Secretariat) is situated in Yekaterinburg (Russia).

 

The Institute is engaged in research and educational projects in the sphere of comparative and international law with regard to BRICS countries' jurisdictions and provides functioning of the Expert Groups for mediation and ad hoc arbitrage in so far as it is provided for under the national laws and the international treaties of BRICS states.

 

The BRICS Law Institute was established on 17 June 2015 in Yekaterinburg (Russia). Memorandum of understanding and cooperation on the "BRICS Law Institute" Project was signed by the representatives of the leading universities from Yekaterinburg (Russia), São Paulo (Brazil), Jodhpur (India), Beijing (China) and Pretoria (South Africa).

 

According to the Memorandum the Institute shall coordinate the academic cooperation of the BRICS countries in the sphere of law with assistance of experts of the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD). The active work of research group for BRICS tax law and signing the Basic agreement on academic cooperation between the Urals State Law University (USLU), the IBFD and the Eurasian Research Center for Comparative and International Fiscal Law (the 8th Session of the European-Asian Law Congress, Yekaterinburg) have preceded the establishment of the Institute. Additional agreements on academic cooperation (such an agreement has been concluded between the University of São Paulo and the Urals State Law University) are expected to be signed in the framework of the Institute's activity.
